Linda Sanborn was invited to speak to the Mission Committee at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church in June of this year.
She immediately liked the warmness of the committee members, and the interest and questions they had about DUO. In particular, they wanted to know how DUO monitors the expenditures of DUO Dollars.
We like that people are concerned if their donations are used wisely and for the purpose that we have set as our mission.
Our mission is to provide urgent and compassionate assistance for the children in need within our county. By partnering with school leaders, we ensure that every child has access to essential resources and that each child feels safe, supported, and valued.
So how do we monitor expenditures?
Here’s the answer.
At the beginning of the school year, when we distribute a $1,000 to each principal of each Santa Rosa County Public School, we hand them a guideline sheet reminding them of our mission statement, and we give examples of past expenditures. We also give them a ledger sheet to write down three pieces of information: the child’s first name and last initial (We do not violate the privacy of the child who is being helped), how the money was spent, and the amount of money used.
Linda, as president of DUO, reads every ledger entry and validates every expense at the end of the school year.
We like that GBUMC’s Mission Committee held us accountable for our expenses and wanted reassurance that DUO Dollars are spent to help our Santa Rosa children because we want all our DUO Dollars going toward helping the children with their critical needs.
So we thank GBUMC for asking Linda to come speak to their committee about DUO Santa Rosa.
It is exciting when we can spread the word about DUO.
It is exciting when we receive donations to continue our mission.
It is exciting to see how GBUMC helped move our DUO Dollars fund-raising thermometer by donating $2000.
